Senior Master Sergeant Timothy Stombaugh

Senior Master Sergeant Tim Stombaugh is the percussionist and the Director of Operation with the United States Air Force Academy Band, Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado. 

Sergeant Stombaugh hails from Port Orange, Florida. He attended the University of North Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Music Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies. As an undergraduate, he was a member of the One O’clock Jazz Band and Jazz Combo which was twice awarded Downbeat magazine's "Best College Small Group" award. He was also honored as the UNF "Outstanding Jazz Musician" for 1998. He has performed professionally with Bunky Green, Bill Prince, Ernie Watts, Conrad Herwig, Al Hood, Barry Greene, and Loston Harris among others and has contributed to a substantial body of recorded work covering a wide range of musical styles. He has been called to substitute for Butch Miles in the legendary Count Basie Orchestra in addition to tours with the Broadway musicals "The Full Monty" and "42nd Street." He has also traveled the country with Alligator Recording artists "Mofro." SMSgt Stombaugh has studied percussion with Charlotte Mabrey and Kevin Garry and drum set with Greg Hutchinson, Jim Rupp, Rick Kirkland, Peter Miles, and Steve Silverstein.

Sergeant Stombaugh enlisted in the United States Air Force in 2005 after auditioning and being selected for assignment to the United States Air Force Academy Band at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. There he served as a percussionist as well as Supply Technician, Antiterrorism Representative, Auditions Technician Enlisted Performance Report Monitor and Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the Falconaires Combo. In 2013, he served as the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Systems Go and was the unit Safety and Training representative while assigned to the Band of Flight at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Sergeant Stombaugh was reassigned to the United States Air Forces in Europe Band in 2016.

Sergeant Stombaugh has deployed twice in support of operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM as a member of Air Force bands downrange. During this time, he performed for troops at numerous forward operating bases throughout Iraq and Afghanistan as well as for embassy and community relations events in Djibouti, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
