Chief Master Sergeant Stephen M. Larson, Band Manager

 

Chief Master Sergeant Steve Larson is the Chief Enlisted Manager of the United States Heritage of America Band. He is a member of the Concert Band and the Ceremonial Band.

Chief Larson graduated Summa Cum Laude from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He was awarded Cleveland State's University's Economics Major of the Year award in 1998. His percussion teachers include Tom Freer of the Cleveland Orchestra, Jim Babor of the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra, and Dr. Larry Snider of the Akron Symphony. Prior to his enlistment, Chief Larson was a member of the Canton Symphony and the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra.

Chief Larson enlisted in the Air Force in 1999. His first assignment was to the Air Force Band of Flight stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH. In June 2006 Chief Larson volunteered for and was selected for a special duty assignment as a Military Training Instructor for Air Force Basic Military Training. He was assigned to the 323rd Training Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base, TX and served as one of two MTIs in charge of the 737th Training Group's Drum and Bugle Corps. During his time there he also served as the squadron's First Sergeant.
Chief Larson was assigned to the Air Force Band of Mid-America at Scott AFB in June of 2006 and served in a number of areas including Resource Advisor and Band Superintendent. His current assignment as Chief Enlisted Manager of the Heritage of America Band began in June of 2016.  His military awards include 2014 Air Mobility Command Public Affairs Senior NCO of the year, 2014 U.S. Air Forces Central Command Public Affairs Senior NCO of the 3rd quarter, 2013 Distinguished Graduate of the Senior NCO Academy, the 2011 323TRS Training Support Senior NCO of the Year, 2010 737TRG Training Support Senior NCO of the Year, "BMT In the Lead" Award, 323TRS Most Professional MTI, 2003 Airmen's Leadership School John L. Levitow Award, the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal.
