7/17/2013 - SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -
The U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America recorded new work July 10 and 11 in the Library Auditorium at Scott Air Force Base.

The new song, Expedite, is for the "10th Anniversary Rebirth of the 18th Air Force," and was written by Tech. Sgt. Shane Stanke, Air Force Public Affairs Agency band arranger.

"The band looks to use this piece as a communication tool to tell the Air Force story," said Maj. Cristina Moore Urrutia, U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America commander.

The 18th Air Force collaborated with the band to produce a video to match up with the song.

"It was a process of brainstorming with Gen. Darren McDew, 18th Air Force commander, from beginning to end to capture the 18th Air Force's story," said Moore Urrutia.

The Band of Mid-America's classical music is used, but the song also includes rock aspects.

"The concept of the piece is about remembering traditions and looking forward to the future, we look to capture that by integrating the rock band with classical," said Moore Urrutia.

The Band of Mid-America will perform the new piece in August.
