The U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific-Asia world-music ensemble "Pacific Clave'" from Yokota Air Base, Japan, completed a 9-day tour, February 25 through March 5, throughout Jakarta, Indonesia to expand engagements with U.S. partners in the Asia-Pacific region and perform at the 10th Annual Java Jazz Festival.

Java Jazz Festival President Peter F. Gontha founded the event in 2005 as a way to reach out to the world. Since then, it has become the largest international jazz event drawing more than 150,000 spectators annually and featuring renowned musical artists from the around the globe.

"We believe that music is the universal language of peace, which is acceptable to all nations from all over the world," wrote Java Festival Production.

The band's five performances at the festival took place at the JIExpo in Indonesia's capital city, Jakarta. Approximately 15 separate stages provided simultaneous musical and cultural exposure to the spectators.

"Many people were interested in the music and concept of the group," stated Staff Sgt. Marco Muñoz, NCO in-charge of Pacific Clave'. "They even offered us a spot to conduct a workshop that had not been planned." The band took advantage of the workshop opportunity to talk more about the group and their mission as U.S. Air Force musical ambassadors.

Following the festival, Clave' provided 2 community outreach concerts for approximately 2000 Islamic high school and university students, conducted an interactive master class, live-streamed a concert over the internet, and delivered a private performance for an outreach event at the residence of the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia.
