The Marching Band from the USAF Band of the Golden West will be the lead band in the Vacaville Fiesta Days Parade on May 24 at 10 a.m. Run by a non-profit organization composed of volunteers, this year marks the 57th anniversary of the Fiesta Days celebration.

"The USAF Band of the Golden West is always proud to use the power of music to represent the United States Air Force all across the West Coast and especially here at home," says Captain Jason Plosch, Commander of the Band of the Golden West. "We are part of the local community whether we're active duty, guard, reserve, civilian or retired, and we are happy to call this community home."

The 40-member marching band regularly participates in official military ceremonies, military and civilian parades, and patriotic events for the general public. Exhibiting an impressive precision marching style, the band evokes patriotism and moves audiences with its stirring renditions of military and patriotic music.

Supporting community events is how the band uses musical excellence to showcase the overall excellence of all Airmen in Air Mobility Command. With an outreach mission that covers a 7-state area, the band has represented the Air Force in such appearances as patriotic game openings for the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics, as well as leading the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade three times - 1997, 2000, and 2003.

In addition to the musical support provided by the Marching Band, four members from the unit also volunteered to be judges for the Fiesta Days Parade.

Guitarist Staff Sgt. Paul Wells, who loves marching bands, jumped at the chance to serve his community as a Fiesta Days Parade judge.

"Ever since I was a kid, my favorite part of local parades was the marching bands. I always loved the way they looked all in step, and I loved the way they sounded - especially the drum cadences. It always brought excitement to the parades," said Wells.

The Vacaville Fiesta Days Parade starts from the intersection of Mason and Merchant Streets in downtown Vacaville. The entire parade route as well as other Fiesta Days events can be found at fiestadays.org.
