To help celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the opening of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the U.S. Air Force Concert Band will perform a free concert in the Terrace Theater on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. This concert, part of the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage Series, will be conducted by Colonel Larry Lang and Captain David Alpar, and will feature clarinet soloist, Technical Sgt. Brian Wahrlich to perform "Fantasia and Rondo" by Carl Maria von Weber.

The Kennedy Center, which opened on Sept. 8, 1971, is the busiest performing arts facility in the United States and annually hosts approximately 2,000 performances for audiences totaling nearly 2 million people. The center produces and presents theater, dance, ballet, orchestral, chamber, jazz, popular and folk music, in addition to multi-media performances for all ages. The Kennedy Center's achievements as a commissioner, producer, and nurturer of developing artists have resulted in more than 200 theatrical productions, dozens of new ballets, operas and musical works.

This concert, entitled "Celebrations" will feature Philip Sparke's "Jubilee Overture," Gustav Holst's "Jupiter" from "The Planets" as arranged for band, and Vincent Persichetti's "Symphony No. 6." To view the full program for this exciting event, click HERE.

The Millennium Stage program, now in its sixteenth year, offers more than 400 free performances annually at the Kennedy Center, and was created to make the performing arts accessible to everyone in fulfillment of the center's mission to the community and the nation. All Millennium Stage performances, including this special concert by The U.S. Air Force Band, are streamed live over the internet and will be accessible for future viewings through the archives at Kennedy-Center.org.
