New member in the Concert Band

The U.S. Air Force Band is proud to welcome the newest member to the Concert Band - Technical Sgt. Emily Snyder. She will serve as second oboe and English hornist with this large ensemble. Prior to her arrival at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Snyder completed the eight-week Air Force Basic Military Training course at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, which is required of all Airmen enlisting in the Air Force.

Though originally from Newark, Del., Snyder attended college far from her home of origin, studying at the prestigious Rice University in Houston from which she graduated in 2013. An accomplished musician, she has served as principal oboe with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and has performed as a soloist with both the Newark Symphony and Kennett Symphony Orchestras. She spent many summers attending some of the world's most renown music festivals, including the Tanglewood Institute and the National Repertory Orchestra.

Although many enlisting Airmen struggle with Basic Military Training, Snyder took on the challenge with enthusiasm. "Boot camp was mentally tough, but I was glad to be there," she said. "I am glad for the variety of experiences it exposed me to, and for the opportunity to understand what the military is all about." When asked how it feels to finally be a member of the Band, she said, "It is wonderful to finally be here. My colleagues have been so welcoming, and it is great to be around people who love what they do. I am grateful for this opportunity, and proud to be able to serve my country in this way."

Once again, we welcome Sergeant Snyder to the U.S. Air Force and The United States Air Force Band!
