Airmen of Note close out Summer Series with Alumni Published Sept. 25, 2013 By Master Sgt. Jeff Martin Washington D.C. -- On 30 August 2013, the Airmen of Note invited 10 distinguished alumni to close out The U.S. Air Force Band's 2013 Summer Series at the Air Force Memorial. Playing for a large, enthusiastic audience, the Note played gems like "Once I loved," "Caravan" and "Never Make Your Move Too Soon." Throughout its history, the Note has attracted some of the top jazz musicians in the world, and the Alumni concert was a chance to hear some of that former talent at a world-class level. Some of the alumni featured were vocalists Juanita Williams, Bobbie Coonin and Tracey Wright and trumpeters Vaughn Nark and Rich Sigler. Also joining the Note that evening were trombonist Paul Rawlins, pianist Wade Beach, guitarist Rick Whitehead, bassist Ephram Wolfolk and saxophonist Doug Gately. These featured alumni played with the Note from 1970 (Rick Whitehead) to as recently as 2012 (Rich Sigler). An online album from this concert can be found on the Airmen of Note's Facebook page under the title, "Summer Concert Series Finale-Alumni Concert." The Airmen of Note is currently gearing up for its Jazz Heritage Series, which this year will consist of recordings only, including a session with trumpet legend Bobby Shew. These recordings are distributed internationally to radio stations reaching millions of listeners annually. The Note will also be participating in the Maryland Public Television Veteran's Day broadcast in November with other Airmen musicians from the Band. Please look for the Note then, or at other concerts in the local area. We hope to see you soon!
