Concert Band and Singing Sergeants kick off Summer! Published May 30, 2014 Chief Master Sgt. Jenn Pagnard and Senior Master Sgt. Rob Harrelson -- Tonight, The U.S. Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants kick off summer with their first concert of the season. This opening concert of the Band's summer concert series will feature music of the stage and screen, including a special tribute to the upcoming 70th anniversary of D-Day. Maj. Michael J. Willen, 1st Lt. Shanti Simon Nolan and Technical Sgt. Joe Bello will conduct. Tonight's concert will also feature student musician, Joe Broom, who is the winner of the Band's Young Artist Competition. A native of McLean, Va., he is an outstanding euphonium player who performs with multiple ensembles in metropolitan Washington, D.C. This year the Band is excited to return to the National Sylvan Theatre every Wednesday night in June, July and August (exception: June 25 and July 2). Having just undergone major renovations, the Sylvan Theatre is an outdoor amphitheater located near the base of the Washington Monument. The closest Metro stations are Smithsonian and Federal Triangle. Please note: parking is very limited in this part of Washington, D.C. All summer long, locals and tourists alike can enjoy entertaining music "al fresco" as groups from The U.S. Air Force Band perform more than 70 concerts throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
