The United States Air Force Band continues their 2014 Summer Concert Series with two performances commemorating the 70th Anniversary of D-Day, as well as a Maryland Public Broadcasting television special in honor of the same event.

The Concert Band and Singing Sergeants will present "Music from Stage and Screen with a special D-Day 70th Anniversary Salute" on Tuesday, June 3 on the west steps of the U.S. Capitol Building. The same concert will be repeated on Wednesday, June 4 at the National Sylvan Theatre, located at 15th Street and Independence Avenue, S.W., Washington, D.C., located about 450 feet southeast of the Washington Monument. Both of these concerts begin at 8 p.m., and feature WWII-inspired favorites such as "Colonel Bogey March," John Williams' "Midway March," and "Hymn to the Fallen," the latter of which was featured in the movie "Saving Private Ryan."

On Friday, June 6 at 9:30 p.m., Maryland Public Television will air our recently recorded special, entitled "D-Day at 70: A Salute to America's Greatest Generation." This one-hour concert will feature musicians from The U.S. Air Force Band performing patriotic and popular favorites as a tribute to one of the greatest battles in military history. Viewers can look forward to appearances by some of the Air Force Band's brightest stars, including vocalists from the Singing Sergeants, the Airmen of Note, the Air Force Strings, and the renowned performer Bobby Caldwell, as they commemorate the day that shaped the world in which we live. The show will honor the military milestone with short vignettes that demonstrate the courage and determination of our armed forces at this pivotal point in history. The pre-recorded broadcast was taped on May 14 and 15. This program will be re-aired on July 4 at 11 p.m. Maryland Public Television's full broadcast schedule can be viewed here:
