The Airmen of Note is pleased to be returning to the Detroit Jazz Festival, the world's largest free jazz festival. The Note was a fixture at the festival for several years in the 1980s and has missed the opportunity to play for the great jazz fans in Detroit who have become such loyal followers of the Note. We are honored and proud to, once again, be a part of this storied festival.

On Saturday, Aug. 30, the Airmen of Note will join forces with vocal legend and Detroit native, Freda Payne. She is best known for her R&B hits "Band of Gold" and "Bring the Boys Home," but is equally at home in front of a big band where she got her start with the great Duke Ellington band and later with the Quincy Jones ensemble. The Note is excited to perform selections from Payne's newest recording "Come Back to Me Love" with fresh arrangements from Bill Cunliffe. The 75-minute set will begin at 7:45 p.m., at Carhartt Amphitheater.

On Sunday, Aug. 31, the Airmen of Note will be featured with their own hard-hitting, 75-minute set. The band will perform a wide variety of music from jazz legends such as Miles Davis, Kenny Garrett, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Michael Brecker. Renowned U.S. Air Force Band staff arranger Master Sgt. Alan Baylock and members of the band have crafted many new exhilarating charts that will showcase the modern sound of the Note. The show begins at 1:30 p.m., on the J.P. Morgan Chase Main Stage. We hope to see you at both events!
