The Busiest Day of the Year!

And you think your holidays are tough!  For many, December is the busiest month of the year with all the hustle and bustle of the season and hosting family and friends. Well, it's the same story for The U.S. Air Force Band, with every ensemble working at maximum tempo. Naturally, our members are used to this schedule, but this year Dec. 12 was by far the busiest day of the entire year for The U.S. Air Force Band. Here is a glimpse into our "busiest day of the year."

The Concert Band and Singing Sergeants joined together at D.A.R. Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the "Spirit of the Season" Holiday Matinee for Kids. This concert was presented to more than 2,000 students that were bused in from various schools from around the national capital region, as well as home schoolers. For the first time in the 8-year history of these holiday concerts for students, we had an international group in attendance. A high school group from Australia enjoyed the concert along with students from the local area.

Following the show, the Concert Band and Singing Sergeants spent an additional five hours at D.A.R. recording a holiday CD.  That recording won't be available until next November, but fortunately there are two new holiday recordings ready for download right now!  They are "Spirit of the Season" and "Holiday Stocking Stuffers," and you can find them on our website under the "audio/visual" tab.

The Ceremonial Brass began the day at Arlington National Cemetery by presenting two standard honors funerals and one full honors funeral to pay tribute our nation's fallen heroes and veterans. Later in the day, members from the Ceremonial Brass helped spread holiday cheer by playing for two holiday parties.

The Airmen of Note spent the day rehearsing for the annual Midwest Clinic for band and orchestra to be held in Chicago. The Note's Midwest concert will take place at the McCormick Place convention center on Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. The group will also be featured at a music reading session at the convention on Dec. 19. While in Chicago, the Note will be featured on WGN TV as well, playing holiday favorites on Thursday, Dec. 18, between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. A link to that broadcast can be found on our website 'Events Calendar'.
