Ceremonial Brass performs at White House

The Ceremonial Brass once again serenaded visitors viewing the botanical wonders of the White House lawn. The distinguished 24-member brass ensemble and brass quintet traded off sets of patriotic music while over a hundred wonder-filled guests enjoyed the experience.

The origins of the Ceremonial Brass trace back to 1964 when the U. S. Air Force Headquarters Command Band was incorporated in The U.S. Air Force Band as a ceremonial unit. It became an all brass and percussion ensemble in 1985 and was renamed "The Ceremonial Brass."

White House Garden Tours have been a tradition since 1972 when Pat Nixon first opened the White House gardens to the public. The celebrated event continues to this day. On this occasion, visitors were invited to view the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, the Rose Garden, the Children's Garden and the Lawn of the White House.

While this is certainly not a new venture for the Brass, for two of its newest members, Capt. Haley Armstrong and Technical Sgt. Kaz Kruszewski, this was their first time performing at the White House. Armstrong said, "I've been in the military for 15 years, but this is the first time I've been stationed in the National Capitol Region. This chance to work with the community on these hollowed grounds and work with this great band is an incredible opportunity. It's music that allows us to represent the military to the public and connect with our audience."
