Papana plays for "I Love Kailua" party Published May 13, 2013 By SrA Brian Plank Band of the Pacific-Hawaii May 13, 2013 -- The USAF Band of the Pacific-Hawaii's jazz ensemble Papana recently performed for the 21st Annual "I Love Kailua" Town Party. Cheered on by an attentive crowd, the show featured their own renditions of jazz standards such as Freddie Hubbard's "Up Jumped Spring" and Roy Hargrove's "Proclamation". The performance featured the inventive arrangements and talents of the group, including group leader and trumpeter, TSgt Dave Diamond, saxophonist SSgt Miles Hudlow and trombonist TSgt Ben Kadow. MSgt Lara Murdzia also enthralled the crowd with her vocal stylings on such classics as "Easy to Love" and "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home to". The rhythm section of MSgt Darryl McEachin, drummer SSgt Troy Griffin and bassist/emcee SrA Phil Rungee provided varied and colorful backing, interacting with each other while providing harmonic and rhythmic support. An estimated five thousand people flocked to the annual event and enjoyed the music and festivities, including food from local restaurants, arts and crafts and live music.
