The Students of Cottage Hill Spend a Day With the Air Force Band of Liberty Published May 21, 2010 By SrA Mannella ESC/BA Hanscom AFB, MA -- On the 14th of April, several choral students from Cottage Hill Academy visited the Band of Liberty. The students requested a visit to observe a music rehearsal and to ask questions of the band's members. The group arrived on base in the morning and were able to watch the band prepare for its upcoming tour of Connecticut and New York. Following the rehearsal, Captain Alpar opened up the floor for the students to ask the band members questions. The questions mostly pertained to the type of music the Band of Liberty plays, how much band members rehearse, where the members were from, how much members are away from families, and how individuals came to be members of the Band of Liberty. This type of event is exactly what the Band of Liberty hopes to accomplish with the Educational Outreach Program. As with our concerts, base events, and military functions, the Educational Outreach Program is designed to make an impact on our community. The vast majority of our audiences are filled with adults so any opportunity the unit has to reach out to the youth in the local community is embraced. We are grateful for the efforts of Assistant Principal Michael Siplas and applaud his efforts to enrich the lives of his students.
