Mach 4 Presents a Clinic and Concert for Bangor High School Published Oct. 20, 2010 By SrA Mike Mannella USAF Band of Liberty Mach 4 Concet at Bangor High School -- The Band of Liberty's newest small group is Mach 4. The group is composed of four trombones and plays music ranging from Bruckner to Ellington to Ives. On Wednesday, the 6th of October the students of Bangor High School were treated with a concert/clinic from the members of Mach 4. The performance portion opened with an arrangement of the march Little Giant. This march was arranged by SSgt George Father, dedicated to Mach 4's Bass Trombonist, TSgt Jeremy Grant. Bangor High School's band director, Scott Burditt had stated that he wanted us to talk about the fundamentals of music and discuss the importance of chamber music with his students. Each member of the group addressed a different aspect of music making and presented the students with challenging questions. The group also performed Locus Iste, composed by Anton Bruckner , which allowed Mach 4 to display to the students a musicians responsibility to look beyond the ink on the paper and find ways to relate personally to the music. SSgt Blair Raker finished up the clinic with a beautiful rendition of the jazz classic Love that also featured an open improvisation section. The Band of Liberty's Educational Outreach Program exists to educate and inspire music students of all ages. We have a woodwind quintet, brass quintet, jazz band, clarinet quartet and trombone quartet and all of these ensembles can provide clinics/masterclasses or recitals. If you would like to host one of our groups for an outreach program please contact SrA Mannella via email at mike.mannella@hanscom.af.mil or by phone at 781-377-0150.
