Academy Band Secretary awarded Civilian of the Year for USAFA Published Jan. 31, 2008 By TSgt Ryan Janus USAF Academy Band Colorado Springs -- Hazel Taylor, administrative assistant for the United States Air Force Academy Band, has just been awarded Direct Reporting Unit (DRU) Civilian of the Year for the US Air Force Academy. Ms. Taylor has served as a civil servant for the last 26 years, and was assigned to the USAF Academy Band in 1990. She has had a lifelong relationship with the United States Air Force. Both her father and her husband have served in the Air Force, and she herself joined civil service on February 2, 1982. Her first assignment was at Mitchell Hall at the United States Air Force Academy serving as a Food Service Worker until May 4, 1985. Ms. Taylor has served in a variety of positions, including Clerical Technician for the Executive Chef of Special Projects, Clerk/Typist for Special Projects, Clerk/Typist for the Administration Section and Secretary for the Cadet Wing Quality Control Office. She currently handles all administrative and clerical work with the band.
