Blue Steel to Rock Big Apple to the Core Published Sept. 12, 2008 By MSgt Steven M. Przyzycki The USAF Academy Band 9/12/2008 -- The United States Air Force Academy Band will return to New York City once again this November. This time, the pop/rock group Blue Steel will be taking a bite out of the Big Apple. The tour will be centered in Manhattan and include several major media hits in support of Air Force community relations as well as several school performances in support of Air Force recruiting. On Veteran's Day, November 11th Blue Steel will be featured on the nationally syndicated Fox and Friends. This popular morning newscast always attracts a great crowd outside the studios at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, and is viewed by thousands every morning. On November 10th, the band will honor the true American heroes at the Brooklyn, New York Fire Department (FDNY) with a special dedication concert open to the public on the firehouse grounds at 9 Metrotech Ave in Brooklyn. Veterans from all of our armed services will be treated to a performance honoring their service to our nation at the Queens, New York VA Hospital on November 15th. Blue Steel, has always been at the forefront in supporting the Air Force Academy Band's Educational Outreach mission. They will perform for after school programs at the Harlem's Children's Zone on November 12th at 6:30 p.m. at their Cullen Community Center at 242 West 144 Street, and at the Queens Community House on November 13th at 6:00 p.m. 108-25 62nd Drive in Forest Hills, NY. Both of these educational programs are free and open to the public and will feature the high impact energy that Blue Steel's music brings to every show. The band will also present a powerhouse show at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx where they will stress higher education opportunities at the Air Force Academy, and career options for both enlisted and officers in our United States Air Force. The underlying theme will be to make the most of your high school years while practicing the core values that comprise our way of life in the Air Force: Integrity First, Service before Self, and Excellence in All We Do. Football season will be in full swing or should I say pass in November, and Blue Steel will capitalize on the large audience that this Sunday afternoon pass-time presents. They will perform at the New York Jets' Meadowland Complex on November 9th at 1:00 p.m. and at the New York Giants Stadium at 1:00 p.m., also at the Meadowland Complex located in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Tour Manager and keyboardist Technical Sergeant Andrew Benton said the group was really looking forward to the tour stating, "New York is such a cosmopolitan environment. It really is the world city, offering something for everyone. It is the one place where all views and cultures come together to offer a very eclectic way of life. To be able to perform here and tell the Air Force story through our high-energy music is a fantastic opportunity. The band is psyched, and I can guarantee some great shows that will honor the great men and women that comprise our United States Air Force."
