The USAF Academy Band Celebrates America in Colorado Published July 17, 2009 By SMSgt Larry Hill The USAF Academy Band Colorado -- The USAF Academy Band performed "Celebrate America!" to over 16,000 Coloradoans during 4th of July week. The Band performed in Alamosa, Salida, Dillon and Aurora. The Band partnered with community agencies and local businesses in each city to ensure the performances were successful. Alamosa and Dillon reported record audiences at the performances. Lt Col Larry Lang, Commander of the Band and 1Lt Jason Plosch, Deputy Commander each conducted during the concerts. The audiences were thrilled when MSgt Karl Bradley, Drum Major, conducted Washington Post March. TSgt Nancy Poffenbarger, who recently returned from Southwest Asia, gave a stirring performance of "God Bless America" that was met with standing ovations every night. MSgt Tim Allums entertained the audiences with his trumpet and vocal performance of "The Music of Louis Armstrong". TSgt Geoff Torres, saxophone section leader remarked "The performance in Dillon was one of the highlights of my Air Force career." Ms. Susan Fairweather, Director of Marketing for the town of Dillion, said "the attendance estimate in and around the Amphitheatre, Marina Park and close by private property lawns was at 8,500. It was the largest audience that Dillon has every hosted...it was a truly amazing performance!" The Academy Band plans to perform in the same cities during 4th of July week in 2010, and possibly add a performance along the front range of Colorado.
