Academy Band Paints American Portraits throughout Texas Published March 25, 2010 By MSgt Steven M. Przyzycki The USAF Academy Band Brenham, TX -- Your United States Air Force Academy Band's "American Portraits" tour continued here tonight. The band performed to a packed, exuberant house. The band arrived early in the day to work with music students from the Brenham High School Band. One of the Academy Band's component groups, Academy Winds presented a short performance and various clinics for the students. Several students were selected by their band director to perform John Philip Sousa's "Daughters of Texas" march with the Academy Band. This rare opportunity is made possible by the band's Educational Outreach program run by Technical Sergeant Nancy Poffenbarger. Students from Brenham High School selected to perform were Eric Ruiz, Kurt Koronka, Howard Holzer, Tina Pham, Emily Holzer, Eileen Fritz, Ian Schroeder, Emily Sturrock, Larie Self, Zach Jenkins, Tyler Faykus, Michael Brooks, Christopher Calvery and Anthony Pena. Commander Lieutenant Colonel Larry H. Lang led the band through a great variety of music that painted a vivid American portrait of our country's diverse culture. Master Sergeant Karl Bradley dazzled the crowd with his solo euphonium "All Those Enduring Young Charms." The concert band was featured throughout the night. Crowd pleasers were Edwin Franko Goldman's "Bugles and Drums" and the audience sang along to the band's stirring rendition of "America the Beautiful." The concert's second half showcased the talents of the Academy Band singers in a rousing production entitled "The Dames of Broadway." Famous songs and dance numbers from the best musicals to ever appear in the theater were presented to the crowds delight. The concert concluded with a salute to our veterans and the fine young men and women serving throughout our military today. Tomorrow night will find the band in Rosenberg, Texas.
