Master Sgt. Gene Montgomery, the Academy Band's principal bass trombonist, was selected as the 2012 U.S. Air Force Academy Resource Advisor of the Year and by one band official's account, the award was well-deserved. The Henderson, KY, native joined the Air Force after receiving his Master of Music degree from the University of Akron. He has performed as a trombonist with the American Institute of Musical Studies Festival Orchestra in Graz, Austria, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Dayton, Ohio, and the Northern Kentucky Symphony Orchestra.
