The Pacific Air Forces band, Pacific Trends, rocked their way around Okinawa Feb. 6-10, performing shows for the young and old.

The band made several appearances around the island at off-base establishments. They performed for the local Lions Club in Naha, at a local elderly home, in American Village and also had a show in Itoman City.

In surveys conducted at one off-base location, local national audience members commented, "This type of interaction should be continued...", "Truly moved" and "Please keep [up the good] work for the U.S. [and] Japan friendship."

Pacific Trends performed their largest show in front of more than 800 children from Department of Defense schools.

"The show was very exciting," said Kearra Street, Kadena High School senior. "A lot of people would love to see this show."

The band performed American music ranging from pop and rock to jazz that had the students dancing in their seats.

"It's a tremendous opportunity for the kids to see professionals inspire them to further their musical education," said Jim Hasman, Department of Defense Education Activity fine arts coordinator. "This is better than seeing musicians on T.V.; they get to see it live and it makes a huge difference."

Pacific Trends travels around PACAF helping to create bonds between the United States and Pacific host nations, fighting the language and cultural barrier so everyone can rock out through the universal language of music.
