As the summer months are quickly approaching, The United States Air Force Band is revving its engines and preparing for takeoff at several venues in and around Washington, D.C.

You'll find The USAF Band twice weekly at the Air Force Memorial in Arlington, Va. The memorial honors the men and women of the United States Air Force, especially the 54,000 Airmen who have died in combat while serving. Located just off Columbia Pike at One Air Force Memorial Drive, the recently-built Memorial provides an inspirational setting for the Band's summer concerts, as well as refreshing summer breezes and spectacular nighttime views of the Pentagon and National Mall.

The Air Force Memorial concerts will take place Wednesday and Friday nights at 8 p.m., from June 4 through August 29, and each concert will feature one of the seven performing units that comprise the USAF Band. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a blanket or short folding chair--bleacher seating is limited.

For some air-conditioned entertainment, come hear the powerful voices of the Singing Sergeants when they participate in the Kennedy Center's "A Cappella: Singing Solo" celebration at the Millennium Stage on June 4.

The Band's own hard-hitting rock group, Max Impact, will take its summer show up to the Robert V. Setera Amphitheater at Allen Pond Park Bowie, Md., on July 1. Max Impact delivers its own blend of today's hip-hop, pop and urban sounds, and everything in between, to entertain the young as well as the young at heart. Their cool sounds are the perfect remedy for the upcoming summer heat.

Visit the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Va., on June 14 to experience the Museum's "Become a Pilot Family Day" along with the cool jazz sounds of the Airmen of Note, the Air Force's premiere 18-piece jazz ensemble. The Note's musical offerings range from Glenn Miller's dance band tunes to the latest in contemporary jazz. If you miss this event, catch the Note the following day, June 15, at the Carter Baron Amphitheater in Washington, D.C.

No Fourth of July celebration is complete without a military band, and the Air Force Band will be entertaining Washingtonians all afternoon and evening. From 4 p.m. until dark, several of the USAF Band's ensembles will be performing at the base of the Washington Monument along with special guest, Grammy Award-winning country artist Larry Gatlin. Choose this venue to be entertained by Max Impact, the Air Force Strings, and the Concert Band and Singing Sergeants; you'll also have a front row seat for the dazzling Capital fireworks display! If you don't want to venture downtown, but want all the pleasures of great music and fireworks, join the Airmen of Note at the Air Force Memorial for another unbeatable Independence Day celebration. The music will begin at 8 p.m.

If you have been looking for a reason to check out the new National Harbor, look no further! The Air Force Band's own classic-rock group Silver Wings will perform at National Harbor's Stage Plaza on July 3 at 4 p.m. You can also enjoy their rocking rhythms at 6 pm. on July 4th at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall.

Next February marks the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birthday, and the USAF Band will help start the celebration a little bit early with 3 summer concerts at the Lincoln Memorial this August. Join the Band on the steps of the Memorial at 6 p.m. on August 5, 12, and 19.

All concerts by The United States Air Force Band are free and open to the public. Tickets are not needed unless specifically indicated. Also note that these concerts are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather.
