Friday the 13th was a lucky night to be a trumpet player in Washington, D.C.! That evening the Airmen of Note performed before a packed crowd at the Harris Theater on the campus of George Mason University for the National Trumpet Competition. The featured artist for the evening was Wayne Bergeron, a Hollywood studio trumpeter who has performed on many major motion pictures, television shows, and recordings for top music artists.

The Airmen of Note rehearsed with Mr. Bergeron the day before the concert and got to know, not only his remarkable musicianship, but his quick sense of humor as well, which he displayed throughout the performance at Harris Theater. Needless to say, a theater full of trumpet players, both students and professionals, made for a very engaged audience - and Mr. Bergeron and the Airmen of Note stuck it on the top shelf!

The concert opened up with an exciting original composition from Note trombonist Master Sgt. Ben Patterson titled "Everyday Adventures," followed by a beautiful flugelhorn feature "My Foolish Heart," performed by Senior Master Sgt. Tim Leahey. The final number before bringing out the featured artist was a high flying arrangement of "My Romance" featuring the outstanding vocalist for the Note, Technical Sgt. Paige Martin and some incredible soaring trumpet work by Master Sgt. Brian MacDonald. Needless to say, that really charged up the audience!

At this point, Wayne Bergeron came on stage and was well received by a very enthusiastic crowd. He performed several arrangements from his recent solo recordings, and several charts that are part of the Airmen of Note library. One of these selections included staff arranger Master Sgt. Alan Baylock's setting of "Amazing Grace," that was reworked for three trumpets and featured Mr. Bergeron and Master Sergeants Kevin Burns and Brian MacDonald.
