USAF Band Welcomes New Commander!

The United States Air Force Band is proud to welcome Lieutenant Col. Alan C. Sierichs as the organization's new commander. His Change of Command Ceremony took place on Monday, June 29, in Arnald Gabriel Hall inside of historic Hangar II, the home of The Air Force Band.

Lieutenant Colonel Sierichs was previously the Deputy Commander of the Band, and came to Washington after serving as Commander of The Air Force Band of Flight, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. He has served in the Air Force for over twenty years as a performer and commander assigned to the Air Force Band program.

Lieutenant Colonel Sierichs received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from Louisiana State University in 1978. He continued his studies at Boston University earning a Master's Degree in Music Performance in 1981.

He enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1981 and received an assignment to the Strategic Air Command Band at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., as a trumpet soloist. During this period, he traveled extensively throughout the mid-western United States where he received high acclaim for his outstanding solo work.

Lieutenant Colonel Sierichs was commissioned in 1985 and assigned to the United States Air Force Academy Band as Deputy Commander. His first full command was of the Air Force Band of the Midwest, Chanute Air Force Base, Ill. Following an assignment as Commander of the Air Force Band of the Pacific, Yokota Air Base, Japan, Lieutenant Colonel Sierichs returned stateside to command the Air Force Band of Liberty, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. In June of 2000, he became the Commander of the Air Force Band of Flight, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

Throughout his assignments, Lieutenant Colonel Sierichs' innovative ideas, musical arrangements, and stellar showmanship have captured the hearts of American civilian and military personnel as well as the nations of the Pacific region. He has designed shows and performed for many high ranking officials, including the President and Vice President of the United States, the Secretary of the Air Force, the Air Force Chief of Staff, and many foreign heads of state. His vision and dedication have gained him the respect of his superiors, peers, and subordinates alike.

The appointment of Lieutenant Colonel Sierichs to command The USAF Band opens a new chapter for an organization rich in history and heritage. He becomes only the twelfth commander in the history of the Band, with a career that has spanned the enlisted and officer ranks. The men and women of The United States Air Force Band proudly welcome Lieutenant Colonel Alan Sierichs. We look forward to serving with him, and using our musical talents to represent the U. S. Air Force to the nation and the world.
