The Guest Artist Series always brings memorable performers to Washington, D.C. and this concert was no exception. These photos, taken March 1, 1981 are from a concert with "Big Bird" of Sesame Street and guest narrator Chris Core of radio station WMAL-- AM63. It was a performance that was enjoyed by both The USAF Band and the audience.

You might like to know that Big Bird's name is Carrol Spinney and is one of the most gentle and caring men that I have met. He and his wife have devoted their lives to children, especially the underprivileged.

-Colonel (Ret.) Arnald D. Gabriel, Conductor Emeritus, The USAF Band

Just a note to let you know that I was the tuba soloist on that concert. It was a children's concert and I performed Tubby the Tuba by George Kleinsinger with Chris Core narrating. I was a relatively new member of the Band at that time having joined them in May 1980.

-Senior Master Sgt. (Ret.) Ed McKee, USAF Band

These pictures are part of a collection of photographs and programs in the "Gabriel Collection" kept in the Werle Library. They were a gift from Colonel Arnald D. Gabriel and are a treasured part of our heritage.
