In November, the Concert Band and Singing Sergeants performed at the Virginia Music Educator's Association's annual conference in Norfolk, Va.

Chief Master Sgt. William Marr, the noncommissioned officer-in-charge of the Concert Band, was the featured instrumental soloist on the program performing Gunther Schuller's "A Tribute to Rudy". Chief Marr hails from Alexandria, Va., and grew up as a student in Virginia's Fairfax County Public Schools. More than a dozen other members of the Concert Band and Singing Sergeants grew up attending public schools in "The Old Dominion."

Other works on the Concert Band's portion of the program included Alfred Reed's "Armenian Dances", Rimsky-Korsakov's "Procession of the Nobles" and music from the motion picture "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End".

The Singing Sergeants took the stage for "Opera Live", a crowd-pleasing collection of selections from the world of opera. Master Sgt. Shani Prewitt was also featured in the program's finale, "Freedom".

The Virginia Music Educators Association is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide mutual helpfulness to its membership and to promote the advancement of music education through schools and other educational institutions. It was a privilege for The U.S. Air Force Band to represent the very best of the United States Air Force to the hundreds of students, educators and administrators at the annual VMEA convention.
