On April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rouse Theater in Columbia, Md., The United States Air Force Band will usher in a new era under the baton of Col. Larry H. Lang, the organization's newly installed commander and conductor.

Originally from El Paso, Texas, Colonel Lang comes to the U.S. Air Force's premier band from The U.S. Air Force Academy Band, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise as his career has taken him through 6 different Air Force bands around the globe. He is a member of numerous musical associations, to include the prestigious American Bandmasters Association and is active as a guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States and abroad.

Colonel Lang's first concert will feature the Concert Band and the official chorus of the United States Air Force, the Singing Sergeants. He is naturally looking forward to the concert, saying, "I'm extraordinarily honored to conduct this premier organization and have titled my first program, 'Celebrations' indicating a celebration of our American freedoms, those who serve this great nation, and for my inaugural performance with The United States Air Force Band." The evening's program will highlight music from American composers John Phillip Sousa, Eric Whitacre, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Irving Berlin and Charles Ives.

This concert will also be bittersweet for the Band, as it marks one of the last performances by one of the Concert Band members. In early May, Master Sergeant William Jones will depart for the Air Force Commissioned Officer Training School, followed by attendance at the Air Force Judge Advocate General (JAG) School. Sergeant Jones received his law degree from George Mason University in 2010 and was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 2011. Upon successful completion of JAG school, he'll continue to serve his nation as an Air Force lawyer. (story) We wish him the best!

Don't miss our upcoming concerts throughout the National Capital Region in April and May, including Chamber concerts as well as performances by the Concert Band, Singing Sergeants and Airmen of Note.
