Jeff Martin Joint Base Anacostia Bolling, D.C. -- The 2012 Jazz Heritage Series finished up with the Airmen of Note hosting acclaimed vibraphonist and composer Joe Locke to George Washington University on November 9 to an enthusiastic audience. Joe Locke is widely considered to be the preeminent voice on his instrument, and his talents were out in full force at Lisner Auditorium for the final installment of the Jazz Heritage Series. Master Sgt. Alan Baylock's arrangements of "Her Sanctuary" and "Pure Imagination" were highlights of the evening, which included compositions from the Joe Locke library. Locke congratulated the band, saying "It was really a privilege to perform with this top-notch orchestra. The fact that the guys made me feel like one of the family only made it that much better!" Locke has performed with Grover Washington Jr., Kenny Barron, Eddie Henderson, Geoff Keezer, The Beastie Boys and many other well known acts. He was named "Mallet Player of the Year" three times from the Jazz Journalists Association, as well as recording numerous albums as a leader and sideman. The Airmen of Note's Jazz Heritage Series has been going strong since 1990, and concerts have been recorded and broadcast around the country for more than 4 million listeners annually as part of their community outreach effort. The live concerts provide an amazing opportunity for the public to witness Air Force excellence and professionalism first hand.
