Air Force Strings perform for Vice President Biden Published Jan. 31, 2013 By Senior Master Sgt. Bill Tortolano The U.S. Air Force Band WASHINGTON -- While the Concert Band, Ceremonial Brass and Airmen of Note were marching in the parade, the Air Force Strings were supporting two inaugural events for the vice president. As stated in the 20th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the official swearing-in date for the president and vice president is January 20. This was done in private ceremonies both at the White House and vice president's residence. After attending an early morning mass, the Oath of Office was administered to Joseph R. Biden at 8 a.m. with the Strolling Strings at the ready. Later that day, the String Orchestra conducted by 2nd Lt. Shanti Nolan, entertained guests during a reception. Since early in the Bush-Cheney era, the Air Force Strings have performed frequently at the vice president's Naval Observatory residence as a string ensemble. With this current administration's penchant for string quartets, and now strolling, the Air Force Strings have been honored to perform there for several high level events and look forward to all future opportunities.
