Glenn Miller show for Senior Statesman event Published May 6, 2013 By Master Sgt. Jeff Martin Washington D.C. -- On April 18, the Airmen of Note performed a Glenn Miller themed show for the Senior Statesman dinner on Joint Base Anacostia Bolling for the secretary of the Air Force, chief of staff of the Air Force, and 60 other retired general officers and their spouses. The Note was conducted by the Band's commander and conductor, Col. Larry H. Lang, playing the role of Glenn Miller. He also played trombone on the Glenn Miller favorite, "Anvil Chorus." Technical Sgts. Mandi Harper and Emily Wellington and Master Sgt. Janice Carl from the Singing Sergeants also joined the Note as the Andrews Sisters on "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree." The Airmen of Note is the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force. Created in 1950 to carry on the tradition of Major Glenn Miller's Army Air Corps dance band, the "Note" features 18 of the most talented jazz musicians in the country. The Note has long held an international reputation as one of the finest and most versatile big bands in the world. Throughout its history, the Note has continued the legacy of Major Miller's music. The Miller show for the Senior Statesman was a huge success, harkening a by-gone era and reminding all in attendance of The U.S. Air Force Band's legacy of providing musical support for deployed service members all over the world.
