Airmen of Note to Impress at Midwest Published Dec. 13, 2018 By TSgt Mike Cemprola The United States Air Force Band Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling -- The Airmen of Note are again heading to the world’s largest band and orchestra conference: Chicago’s Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic! Fresh off their successful community relations tour of southern Virginia and Eastern Tennessee, the band is keeping their momentum up, preparing for a busy December on the road. Within the span of eight days, the “Note” will have played a concert in Alabama, conducted a music performance clinic for students back home at historic Hangar 2, made a TV appearance in Chicago, and played a headliner concert at the Midwest Clinic. On Wednesday, December 19th, the Note will be making their first stop in Chicago at Niles West High School to give a concert and clinic, providing some lucky students a sneak peek of their Midwest Clinic program. Performing the next night at the McCormick Place Convention Center will be the capstone of 2018. Starting in 1946, the Midwest Clinic began simply as an opportunity for band directors in the area to hone their skills and also take part in a new music-reading session. Over time, that 6-hour clinic has grown into a 4-day event including band and orchestra performances, workshops, exhibits, and more. Integral to the music education world, military bands have been included for decades, and the Note is no exception. In 2014, the band’s performance was recorded and released as an album. International conferences are the most exciting for the Note. With recent weeks of nightly concerts under their belt, the music selected for this program is white-hot and will be performed with flawless execution to a crowd of musicians and music lovers.
