Technical Sgt. John Reyna is a tubist with the Concert Band. Originally from Wilmington, North Carolina, he joined the United States Air Force Band in 2024.
Before joining the Air Force, Sgt. Reyna was an active chamber musician. With the Amity Brass Quintet, he attended the Bay View Music Festival Brass Seminar in Petoskey, Michigan, and competed in the semi-finals of the Chamber Music Division at the 2024 International Trumpet Guild. In 2024, Sgt. Reyna also competed at the regional level with his tuba-euphonium quartet TOAST, receiving first place at the Great Plains Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference Ensemble Competition. Additionally, Sgt. Reyna was also awarded first place in the Solo Tuba Artist Competition. As a composer, he was commissioned and asked to perform his work “The Lumbee Suite for Bass Tuba and Contrabass Tuba” at the 2023 International Tuba Euphonium Conference. Sgt. Reyna was also Instructor of Low Brass at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA in 2024.
Sgt. Reyna earned a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Master of Arts in Performance from the University of Iowa. His primary teachers include John Manning, Justin Worley, Matthew Lyon, and Daniel Johnson.
