The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

Technical Sergeant Brendan Lanighan

Technical Sergeant Brendan Lanighan is a trombonist for the United States Air Force Band's Airmen of Note. Originally from Buffalo, NY, his Air Force career began in 2024.

Prior to joining the Air Force, Sgt. Lanighan performed and toured extensively with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He was also an active member of the New York City jazz scene during his time at the Juilliard School, where he earned his Master of Music in Jazz Studies. He is also a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where he earned a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies and Music Education.

Sgt. Lanighan was selected as the winner of the 2017 International Trombone Association’s J.J. Johnson Jazz. In 2022, he released his debut album, “A Little Optimism,” featuring all original compositions and arrangements for jazz octet.
