Airman First Class Peter Burkholder is a native of the District of Columbia. He studied Saxophone under professor David Pope at James Madison University where he completed a bachelors in Music Performance and later under professor Arthur Bouton at the University of Denver where he completed a Masters in Jazz studies as well. Prior to his current assignment at the Band of the West, A1C Burkholder taught private music lessons and worked as a freelance musician with various musical ensembles throughout the Colorado area. In his spare time, A1C Burkholder enjoys hiking and experiencing the great outdoors. In the past 5 years he has summited three of the tallest mountains in the continental United States including the tallest mountain in Colorado, Mt. Elbert, which stands at 14,440 ft.
