Technical Sgt. Leo Kim is a clarinetist with the Concert Band. Originally from Saratoga, California, he joined The United States Air Force Band in 2022.
Before joining the Air Force, Sgt. Kim taught and freelanced in Ann Arbor, MI, and was a substitute for the Ann Arbor Symphony, Dearborn Symphony, Chicago Civic Orchestra, and New World Symphony. He has also performed with the Sewanee Summer Music Festival and CityMusic Cleveland Chamber Orchestra.
In the summer of 2017, Sgt. Kim made his international debut, touring Europe and performing as a soloist in the Bruges Concertgebouw, Amsterdam Royal Concertgebouw, and also in the Utrecht TivoliVrendenberg as a part of the 2017 WASBE (World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) Conference. He is also a member of Quartet Granitique, a Messiaen Quartet that placed in the 2021 MTNA String Chamber Music Competition, the 2021 Lancaster International Piano Festival Chamber Music Competition, and the 2022 American Prize in Chamber Music Performance Competition.
In 2014, Sgt. Kim received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan where he studied with Daniel Gilbert and Chad Burrow. In 2018, he was awarded a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan.
