Technical Sergeant Wonpyo Lee

Technical Sergeant Wonpyo Lee joined the United States Air Force Academy Band, Peterson Space Force, Colorado, in 2021. He currently performs as flutist with Academy Winds, Concert Band and Marching Band. In addition to his performance duties, TSgt Lee works in the unit’s publicity section.

Prior to joining the Air Force, TSgt Lee was Principal Flute of the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, adjunct flute instructor at the University of Texas at Dallas, and pursuing Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of North Texas. He performed with the Abilene Philharmonic, Dallas Winds, Fort Worth Symphony, North Texas Wind Symphony, Round Rock Symphony and South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. He was awarded top prizes from the National Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition, NFA Orchestral Audition Competition, Young Texas Artist Music Competition, Chicago Flute Club Solo Artist Competition, Mid-South Flute Society Young Artist Competition, and Seattle Flute Society Young Artist Competition. He participated in music festivals including the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, CA, the Brevard Music Festival in Brevard, NC and the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, NC.

TSgt Lee received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Music degree from Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and a Professional Studies Diploma from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. His principal teachers include Timothy Day, Marianne Gedigian, Marina Piccinini, Dr. James Scott, Monica Song, and Terri Sundberg.
