Airman First Class (A1C) Tyler Neufer was born in California but moved to Texas at an early age. He now performs with the United States Air Force (USAF) Band of the West in Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. Before joining the Band of the West, A1C Neufer taught private lessons in the San Antonio area and performed with a few local community bands.
A1C Neufer is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a Masters of Music studying with Kevin Rivard, principal horn of the San Francisco Opera and Ballet. During his undergraduate studies at Baylor University, A1C Neufer studied with Jeffrey Powers, former fourth horn of the Cleveland Orchestra. Other former teachers include Mark Lumley and Patrick Creel.
Prior to his college experience, he performed with the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio under Troy Peters. In 2013 he won the Young Artist Solo Competition sponsored by the Starlight Symphony Orchestra and was a featured soloist with the Symphony. A1C Neufer was chosen as a finalist for both the Juanita Miller Association of Symphony Orchestras and the Pearl Amster Solo Concerto Competition in 2013, and in 2014 he won the International Horn Quartet Competition. A1C Neufer hopes to continue his love for performing and collaborating with the various ensembles in the Band of the West, reaching a wide array of audiences.
