Senior Airman Emily Lloyd

Airman First Class (A1C) Emily Lloyd, a native of Augusta, Georgia, performs on Flute with the United States Air Force (USAF) Band of the West, located at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. Prior to joining the Band of the West, A1C Lloyd was a flute instructor, adjunct professor of music, and board-certified music therapist working in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

A1C Lloyd earned a Bachelor of Music in flute performance and music therapy from the University of Georgia (2013), a Master of Music in flute performance from Southern Methodist University (2015), and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in flute performance from Michigan State University (2018). Former teachers include Richard Sherman, Angela Jones-Reus, Kara Kirkendoll Welch, and Deborah Baron. A1C Lloyd has attended festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Banff Centre for the Arts, and the Chautauqua Music Festival. She has received awards such as first prize in the 2017 South Carolina Flute Society Young Artist Competition, first prize in the 2014 Louisiana Flute Society Piccolo Competition, and winner at the 2014 Meadows School of the Arts Concerto Competition.

An advocate for musicians’ wellness, A1C Lloyd was awarded the Michigan State University Dissertation Completion Fellowship for her research in cardiovascular health during music performance. She was also a recipient of an entrepreneurship award for her development of a sensory-friendly concert series for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in East Lansing, Michigan. A1C Lloyd looks forward to maintaining her interests in musicians’ health and musical entrepreneurship throughout her Air Force Career.
