Master Sergeant Matthew Dannan

Master Sgt. Matthew Dannan is the Chief Music Librarian with The United States Air Force Band, Washington, D.C. Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Sgt. Dannan began his military career in the United States Marine Corps in 1996. After basic training he attended the Armed Forces School of Music and was stationed with Marine Corps Band New Orleans as trombonist, music librarian, and public relations liaison. After performing for and playing a vital role in the planning of military support of the grand opening of the National World War II Museum, he was honorably discharged in 2000. He reenlisted in 2016 to join The United State Air Force Band in Washington. 

Prior to joining the Air Force, Sgt. Dannan served as the performance librarian and ensemble manager with the University of Texas at Austin, head librarian with Brevard Music Center, head music librarian and trombonist with Henderson (NV) Symphony Orchestra, head music librarian, trombonist, and euphoniumist with Las Vegas Brass Band, library consultant with University of Nevada, Las Vegas Orchestra Department, librarian with Nevada Music Educators’ Association All-State Orchestra, and music educator in Louisiana and Nevada. He has worked with such talent as Mathias Bamert, Peter Schickele, Charles Vernon, Joshua Bell, Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Keith Lockhart.

Sgt. Dannan earned his Bachelor of Music at Loyola University New Orleans in 2000. While pursuing his studies, he served as ensemble librarian of the Department of Bands and played trombone with the Crescent City Wind Symphony, New Orleans Trombone Ensemble, New Orleans Civic Symphony, Le Petit Theatre, and Rivertown Repertory Theatre. At the University of North Texas, Dannan earned his Master of Science in library and information science in 2008. He has won music library internships with Interlochen Center for the Arts, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band.
