Technical Sergeant Dominic Sbrega

Technical Sergeant Dominic M. Sbrega joined the United States Air Force Academy Band, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado in 2019. He is currently performing as the bass player for Blue Delta. 

TSgt Sbrega is a native of Portland, Maine where he studied upright bass with Bronek Suchanek and George Rubino. Growing up, he started studying piano at age 5, violin at age 11, bass guitar at age 14, and upright bass at age 16. He attended the Eastman School of Music where he studied with James VanDemark and Jeff Campbell, until transferring to McGill University, where he finished his studies under the tutelage of Fraser Hollins and Jan Jarczyk. Dominic won a Downbeat Magazine award in high school for “outstanding performance.” He was the bassist for the Grammy Jazz Combo with the Grammy Jazz Ensembles, performed several Grammy related events during the Grammy’s in Los Angeles in 2010, and has performed in two Grammy cultural exchange programs. In 2010, he was invited to perform on NPR's “From The Top.”  Prior to winning his position with the United States Air Force Academy Band, TSgt Sbrega spent two years on three cruise lines as the house band's bassist and worked as a freelance musician in New York City for a year. TSgt Sbrega has worked with and shared the stage with artists such as Kenny Burrell, Conrad Herwig, James Moody, Chris Speed, Tony Moreno, Jacob Sacks and Mindi Abair.
