CMSgt David P. McCormick currently serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the United States Air Force Band of Flight, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The Band of Flight uses the power of music to represent The United States, Air Force Material Command, and their mission partners throughout the state of Ohio and surrounding areas. Their mission is to provide world-class ceremonial, communication, engagement, and partnership-building musical products to Honor, Inspire and Connect with the American public, Airmen, and our Joint partners worldwide, and those in all levels of government. Chief McCormick is responsible for leading, organizing, training, and equipping the 17-member unit. He advises MAJCOM, COCOM, and wing-level leadership on effective band employment, allowing delivery of strategic messaging throughout the band’s Area of Responsibility.
CMSgt McCormick joined the United States Air Force in March 2001. After completing basic military training, he was assigned to the USAF Band of Flight, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. In June 2004, he was reassigned to the USAF Band of the Pacific-Alaska. During this assignment, Chief McCormick performed in the countries of Afghanistan, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Qatar while deployed in support of OPERATIONS ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. In June 2011, he started a position with the Air Force Academy Band, Peterson AFB, CO, where he served as the NCOIC of Music Arranging, Travel Resources, and the Stellar Brass ensemble. From July 2016 to October 2018, Chief McCormick served as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Cadet Drum and Bugle Corps at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado. As such, he was responsible for the musical training and performance of the 75-piece Cadet Drum and Bugle Corps and provided all logistical planning for the group, including TDY planning for performances across the nation. From April 2017 to October 2017, he was deployed as the Force Protection Program Manager for the 332d Expeditionary Wing to an undisclosed AFCENT location in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE. In 2018 Chief McCormick returned to the United States Air Force Academy Band where he served as their Director of Operations and Superintendent. In 2020 he took an assignment with the United States Air Forces in Europe Band, where he served as their Superintendent. As such he assisted with managing all aspects of the 45-member squadron in support of USAFE-AFAFRICA initiatives including building and preserving partnerships through official multi-national military, and international community outreach events.
