Technical Sergeant Alexandru Szasz is a trumpeter with the Ceremonial Brass. Originally from Romania, his Air Force career started in 2017 as a member of the United States Air Force Academy Band, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.
TSgt Szasz started his trumpet studies under the direction of John McElroy, former principal trumpet of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, he completed his undergraduate studies in trumpet performance from McGill University in Canada, where he studied with Andrew Dunn and Russell DeVuyst. In 2017, he completed his Master’s degree in trumpet performance at DePaul University in Chicago under the guidance of professors Bill Denton, Matthew Comerford, Matthew Lee and Tage
Larsen.
Over the years, TSgt Szasz has received numerous awards and honors such as the Merit Scholarship at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, the Outstanding Brass Scholarship at McGill University, and a fellowship at the Atlantic Music Festival. He has played several summers as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player with the Sibiu Philharmonic Orchestra in Romania, at the Romanian-American Summer Festival.
