Senior Airman (SrA) Richard Garcia, a native of Palm Bay Florida, serves as a Saxophonist for the USAF Heritage of America Band. He holds a Bachelor of Jazz Studies from The University of North Florida in Jacksonville (2013), as well as a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from New England Conservatory in Boston, MA (2015). He has studied with saxophonists Bunky Green, Jerry Bergonzi, Miguel Zenon (MacArthur Fellow), Donny McCaslin and Todd Delgiudice. He furthered his musical studies with esteemed faculty such as Jason Moran, John McNeil, Ken Schaphorst, Frank Carlberg, Lynne Arriale, Barry Green, Dennis Marks, J.B. Scott, and Dave Steinmeyer (former Leader of the Airmen of Note).
SrA Garcia has performed with many notable recording artists including Danilo Perez, The Dizzy All-Star Band including Jimmy and Tootie Heath, Mulgrew Miller, Bunky Green, Carmen Bradford, The Clayton Brothers, Antonio Hart, Michael Mossman, Terrance Blanchard, Marcus Printup, Maria Schneider, Donny McCaslin, Scotty Barnhart, Richard Stolzman, and The John Allmark Big Band. In addition, he was an in-demand woodwind doubler on the Boston Musical Theater scene. Prior to joining the Air Force, Airman Garcia was the saxophone instructor at Boston College, Bunker Hill Community College, Westwood High School’s Prodigy Program, “Jammin With You,” and he maintained a full private woodwind studio.
SrA Garcia’s 2016 debut album release, “Don’t Look Back,” is a point of pride, displaying his progress as an artist and establishing him as a distinctive and sought after jazz improviser and potent voice in the jazz community.
