Staff Sergeant Alex Liu Macias

Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Alex Liu Macias, a native of Guayaquil, Ecuador, serves as Guitarist for the United States Air Force (USAF) Heritage of America Band, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. He holds a Bachelor and Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.  In 2011, he was honored to receive the Jazz Education Network’s David Baker Scholarship, which recognizes promising young jazz students annually.

 

While in his current role, Sergeant Liu Macias has performed with various groups supporting Department of Defense and Air Force outreach, recruiting, and troop support initiatives across a fifteen-state region. He previously served as guitarist for "Top Flight" at the Band of the West, Lackland AFB, Texas, and "The Jazz Ambassadors" with the U.S. Air Forces in Europe Band, Ramstein AB, Germany, supporting USAFE-AFAFRICA multi-national military and community engagements. 

 

Sergeant Liu Macias's deployments in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM, INHERENT RESOLVE and SPARTAN SHIELD with the U.S. Air Forces Central Band exemplify his active participation in the Air Force mission. His musical performances for troops in various locations throughout the Middle East and Central Asia directly contributed to troop morale and support.
