Senior Airman Julia Fickes Senior Airman Julia Fickes is a bassoon soloist with the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast. Originally from Bowie, Md., her Air Force career began in 2005. Airman Fickes graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Greenbelt, Md. She holds a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Maryland, College Park, Md., and a master's degree in music from the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio. Airman Fickes currently resides in Bowie, Md., with her husband Master Sgt. Joshua Fickes. She is a part-time personal assistant and a devoted stay-at-home mother. Airman Fickes enlisted in the Air Force in 2005, joining the Heartland of America Band at Offutt AFB, NE. She served as their principal bassoon and contrabassoon. She transferred to the Air National Guard in 2007 and became a member of the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast. Airman Fickes' awards and decorations include the Air Force Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
