Master Sergeant Michael Thomas Master Sergeant Michael Thomas, a native of Byron, Illinois, has been a member of the Air National Guard Band of the South since 2001. In addition to performing on trumpet with the Concert Band, Eagle's Flight jazz band, and Brass Quintet, he is also guitarist with Space-A rock band. In 1994, Sergeant Thomas entered the Army National Guard and spent one year serving with the Field Artillery Unit before deciding to switch to the band field. He finished his six-year enlistment in the Army National Guard as a musician, and then entered the Air National Guard. He has marched with the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps, performed with The Falconaires (the Air Force Academy Band jazz ensemble), and with Blast II, Shockwave, a product of the Emmy Award winning production, Blast! Sergeant Thomas owns the show design company CounterMotion, and writes and teaches marching band shows all over the United States. Sergeant Thomas holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Southern University, and is currently pursuing a degree in music education at Georgia Southern University. As a traditional member of the Air National Guard, Sergeant Thomas serves one weekend a month, two weeks during the year and at other times when called to duty. In his free time, he enjoys riding motorcycles, camping, fishing, tennis, and working on old VWs.
