Staff Sergeant Mark S Dickerson

Staff Sergeant Mark "Steve" Dickerson was raised in upstate New York near Albany. He attended Berklee School of Music as a baritone saxophone performance major and received his Bachelor degree in Music from the College of St. Rose.

He performed professionally though the 1970s with various rock, jazz and funk bands, and toured the mid-west prior to joining the US Navy as a Naval Aviator. After achieving Aircraft commander status in VP47 P3 Orion, he then transferred to NAS Corpus Christi Naval Air Station as an instructor on the T34C aircraft.

In 1991 he went standby reserve to build his civilian career as a programmer analyst. He developed software in BRS, Dataware, and OVID technology companies, and currently works as a senior programmer analyst for Price Chopper Super Markets chain in Schenectady, NY.

In 2002 Sergeant Dickerson rejoined the New York Army Guard playing saxophone in the 199th Army Band.  In 2005 he transferred to his current military assignment in the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast .

Sergeant Dickerson also directs a local (Schenectady NY) community jazz band, training musicians for a life of enjoyment with music. He has performed with musicians such as Phil Wilson, Nick Brignola, Gary Burton, Peggy Delaney and Leo Russo.

In his spare time, Sergeant Dickerson enjoys distance running with his wife, Anna, and spending time with their pets.
