Staff Sergeant Matthew C. Carlton

Staff Sgt. Matthew Carlton is a saxophonist and website manager with the Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic. He also plays guitar and keyboards with High Altitude. Originally from Pottsville, Pa., his Air Force career began in 2000.

Sergeant Carlton graduated from Blue Mountain High School, Schuylkill Haven, Pa. He holds a bachelor's degree in music education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Pa. and an associate's degree in maintenance electricity and construction technology from Triangle Tech, Greensburg, Pa.

Sergeant Carlton currently resides in Jeannette, Pa. He works at Polyurethane Process Industries, Greensburg, Pa. He is a member of the Jeannette Community Band. He has worked with artists such as Chris Vadala and Olivia Newton-John.

Sergeant Carlton enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1996, joining the 2nd Marine Division Band , Camp Lejeune, NC. He transferred to the Air National Guard, and became a member of the Air National Guard Band of the Mid-Atlantic in 2000.

Sergeant Carlton's awards and decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal; Air Force Achievement Medal; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two bronze oak leaf clusters; Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal with four bronze oak leaf clusters; Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; the National Defense Service Medal, with one bronze star; the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal; and the Global War on Terror Service Medal.
