Staff Sergeant Matthew G. Holmberg

Staff Sergeant Matthew Holmberg is a tubist with the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast, where he performs additional duties as the Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge of the Library and Alumni Relations Coordinator. Originally from Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, his Air Force career began in 1998.

As a member of the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast, Staff Sergeant Holmberg has performed as a euphoniumist and vocalist with the concert band, as well as a vocalist with High Altitude popular music ensemble. Currently, he performs as a tubist with the concert band and the brass quintet, Brass in Blue.

Staff Sergeant Holmberg graduated from West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education in 2002, and he is currently completing a Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting from Messiah College. Following his graduation from West Chester University, Staff Sergeant Holmberg began a teaching career that has taken him to Lacey Township, New Jersey, where he is currently the Director of Bands at Lacey Township High School. As a resident of Toms River, New Jersey, Staff Sergeant Holmberg actively performs music in the community, including in his church and with the Georgian Court University Concert Band.

Upon graduation from Tamaqua Area Senior High School in 1992, Staff Sergeant Holmberg began his military career with an enlistment as a musician in the United States Marine Corps band field. After graduating from the Armed Forces School of Music in 1993, then Lance Corporal Holmberg was assigned to the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band in El Toro, California. Following two years at that assignment, then Corporal Holmberg was transferred to the III Marine Expeditionary Force Band in Okinawa, Japan. Before joining the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast, Staff Sergeant Holmberg drilled with Battery I, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, a reserve artillery unit in Reading, Pennsylvania. Staff Sergeant Holmberg is a graduate of the Marine Corps Corporals Course and the Air Force Airman Leadership School Correspondence Course.

Staff Sergeant Holmberg's military awards and decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with three oak leaf clusters, Marine Corps Good Conduct medal, the Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Navy Arctic Service Ribbon, the Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with two oak leaf clusters, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with bronze hourglass, and the Pennsylvania Governor's Unit Citation.
